VEEDERSBURG, Ind. – A 92-year-old retired Attica clothing store merchant, died at the scene of a car-truck accident at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 41 at the Interstate 74 interchange. Louis Nathan of 304 E. Washington, Attica, died after suffering a fractured skull, Driver of the truck, Vern Pearson, 57, of Lemont, Ill., was uninjured. He drives for Bacon Tank and Manufacturing Co. of Chicago Ridge, Ill. Indiana State Police reported that both vehicles were southbound on U.S. Route 41, the truck in the passing lane and the Nathan auto in the other lane. Mr. Nathan started to make a right turn into the exit ramp for I-74 by mistake, realized his error and swerved across into the passing lane into the path of the truck, according to the police. Investigation was conducted by Trooper Dale Conrad and Fountain County Coroner Dr. Walter Kinser. Mr. Nathan was a 50-year member of Wabash Lodge 708, F and AM. Born Nov. 15, 1880, in New York City, he had formerly resided in Chicago and Michigan. He had been a resident of Attica for 68 years. He had owned and operated the Louis Nathan Clothing Store until his retirement 18 years ago. He was married Nov. 21, 1915, in Chicago to Della Lustgarten, who survives. Other survivors include three sons, Robert of Winnetka, Dr. M. Hubert Nathan of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Alfred S. of Skokie; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Ruth Goldherd of Decatur and Mrs. Jean Ann Harper of Mahomet; a brother, Phillip of Chicago; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Dale Maus Funeral Home. Rabbi Levinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Jewish Cemetery in Attica. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Masonic rites will be at 8:30 p.m. The family has requested any memorials be in the form of donations to the Lafayette Chapter of Hadassah in care of Temple Israel in Lafayette.   – jlr
